When we consider the task of identifying shepherds for God’s church, we often search for people who reflect certain skills. Does this person know how to motivate people? Do they possess the ability to get things done? Can they identify problems and then offer and implement solutions? Yet, when the apostle Paul speaks of elders, he describes them not in terms of the skills they should possess, but the character they ought to reflect. When given the task of identifying leaders, it is character that counts.
